Editing Expectations
Editing Expectations is a page dedicated to breaking down possible editing packages that authors may select for their submissions. Based on the chosen package, Kerri Hare will then focus her edits on the specific elements listed within that package, as noted in the submission form.
As with all editing and peer reviews, it is essential to remember that my suggestions, feedback, and edits are based solely on my perspectives as both an author and a reader. All suggestions I make are based on my interpretation of the piece, and I will do my best to provide multiple suggestions based on potential intentions, offering options to consider going forward. My sole purpose in providing edits is to help demonstrate how you can further enhance your overall piece and various specific literary elements. All suggestions and pieces of feedback are ultimately up to you, the author, to decide whether to incorporate or dismiss.

Spelling and Grammar Only
The "Spelling and Grammar Only" Package focuses on the grammatical aspects of editing to ensure your work is both grammatically sound and punctuated, thereby enhancing the overall flow and pace of the piece. In this editing package, I will provide support on the more academic elements of writing to help ensure that your words reflect your intended meaning.
Character Development Only
The "Character Development Only" Package focuses on everything Character, from the development of your characters throughout your piece to the introduction, voice, tone, and personality of your characters. In this editing package, I will provide guidance on how to further bring your characters to life in a three-dimensional manner, enabling them to resonate with audiences for years to come.
Plot Progression Only
The "Plot Progression Only" Package focuses on all aspects of plot progression, including sequencing and structure, as well as plot development and enhancements. In this editing package, I will provide support on developing, enhancing, and inspiring the elements and potential directions of your work's plot.
Setting Only
The "Setting Only" Package focuses on setting and scene building within the overall piece, from engaging readers through the use of basic senses to ensuring the setting is clearly defined enough for readers to visualize themselves within the piece. In this editing package, I aim to support both the finer details of the description and the broader, overall components of world-building.
Editing Package Combos
"Editing Package Combos" focuses on pairing individual literary elements into groups that I believe can complement each other effectively in the editing and literary worlds. This section of the packaging combos will focus on groups specified by the package name.
Spelling and Grammar/ General Edits
The "Spelling and Grammar/ General Edits" Combo focuses on everything from the "Spelling/Grammar Only" Package, plus additional general edits that incorporate optional word selections, rephrasing suggestions, and suggestions for adding or subtracting from specific sections as viewed as potentially beneficial.
Showing/ Telling
The "Showing/Telling" Combo focuses on the vital literary technique of "show versus tell". In this editing package combo, I will provide feedback and potential suggestions for areas that might feel either too slow and showy or too quick and telling. As a writer and reader, I understand the challenge and benefits of the "show versus tell" technique, and how it can be used to elevate a piece and enhance reader engagement and investment in it.

"Editing Package Bundles" focuses on a more generalized packaging system that emphasizes genre-based edits, as well as the practical "Basic Words Bundle," which combines all the combo packages into a single bundle. These bundles are designed for authors and writers seeking comprehensive, genre-specific editing support.

I would like to note that, as poetry is a genre I enjoy writing in for fun, I am not a professional poet, nor do I have a specific focus in this genre. While I will do my best to provide feedback, it is always important to seek additional opinions, as this is a more creative genre for me and my poems. I tend not to adhere to typical genre conventions when writing my poetry.
