About Me

- Kerri Hare, Author -

Kerri Jo Hare earned her BA in English and Creative Writing: Fiction and a minor in Psychology from Southern New Hampshire University. She is currently seeking representation. Living in Alameda, California, Kerri is a member of the neurodiverse community. Her in-progress works are a Young Adult fiction novel, Forever and Always, a Romantasy novel, Drops in the Ocean, and a Children’s book, DonutLand. Kerri and her teammates won SNHU’s first Game Design Challenge in 2022, as a team writer, and SNHU’s 2023 W.R.I.T.E. Challenge, where she participated as group leader. Kerri shares her perspectives and experiences in her works, writing with authenticity and telling the stories screaming to be told. Kerri writes fiction works with nonfiction elements and enjoys exploring subgenres, challenging societal and social norms, fighting stereotypes and stigmas, raising awareness on mental health, abuse, and much more.

My future writing goals examine the near future and my hopes for the long term. In the near future, I plan to reach out to SNHU’s Penmen Review to ask if I may gain writing, publishing, and editing experience, apply to the local newspaper, The Alameda Post, apply for editing positions, and reach out to my literary contacts to get started on my post-graduation writing career. I will also continue to read the works of others and work on my pieces during this time. I hope to build a portfolio to shop around to potential literary agents and publishers and gain further experience within the industry. After some experience with representation, I would like to try my hand at self-publishing. I know this direction will demand more of me in every step of the writing, editing, and publishing process than having representation. I have decided to use a pseudonym in the future for my Romantasy works. I will write under my name for my children’s, realistic fiction, and Young Adult works.

Extended Biography

Kerri Hare was first diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) at the end of the 4th grade. In middle school, she received her second, third, and fourth diagnoses of severe depression, severe anxiety, and OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). In 2018, she received her final two diagnoses of BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder) and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). Kerri has spent her whole life struggling with her mental health and trauma. Thus, she turned to the arts to find peace, security, and freedom of expression without fearing consequences. As a member of the neurodiverse community and a minor in Psychology, Kerri uses her life experiences and knowledge to explore mental health, abuse, trauma, and other struggles within her work as a way to process her experiences and share her stories within the safety of fiction. She also uses her works to remind others that they are not alone in their struggles and to help open communication channels on topics society is only starting to bring to light.

As an avid reader, Kerri Hare loves getting lost in the fantastical realms of fantasy, fiction, mystery, and thriller/suspense. She has always heeded the call of adventure, whether dodging rolling boulders with Indiana Jones, sailing the seven seas with Captain Jack Sparrow, or exploring the parks in Jurassic. After a ten-year-long reading strike, the Waterfire Saga by Jennifer Donnelly, an early reader transitioning into a Young Adult series, and Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen, a Young Adult series, finally sparked interest in reading.

Some of Kerri's current reading obsessions and inspirations are from Kerri Maniscalco's Young Adult series, Historical Fiction series, and Romantasy standalones; Natasha Preston's Young Adult thriller/suspense and horror novels, Nicholas Sparks' Romance novel A Walk to Remember, and much more.

When she is not lost within the pages of a book or stuck to the keys of her laptop, Kerri enjoys baking and experimental cooking with pasta, photographing nature scenes of the sun setting over San Francisco, singing at the top of her lungs like she is performing at the Chase Center, and watching mystery and crime shows like CSI, Cold Case, and more.
